MIAMI, FLORIDA
THE ONYX
BRICK & TIMBER COLLECTIVE
Originally developed and constructed by Fortis Design Build and designed by Jason Chandler, dean of FIU school of architecture, 2734 NW 1st Avenue in Miami was purchased by developer Brick & Timber in 2021. The building was rebranded The Onyx. Brereton was approached by Brick and Timber to design a second floor spec suite with a new mezzanine level and an additional floor by adding a new penthouse hospitality suite and roof deck to the existing structure. The overall design concept was influenced by many of Miami’s high end hospitality properties and from the street art found throughout the Wynwood neighborhood where the building is located . Warm neutral finishes, sleek contemporary furnishings, tropical plants, a custom interior water feature and a extensive art program were incorporated into the design of the second floor suite and mezzanine. The penthouse hospitality suite has a decidedly more island feel with rattan furniture, tropical De Gournay wall coverings, access to the deck through retractable glass walls and extensive plantings.
